Pauper, after going gold help the new players
« on: September 03, 2014, 03:51:26 PM »
after going gold eventually more new players will start playing IW.
one of the best ways to help them is to make pauper games give more IP say 25% or 50% more.

it doesnt have to be permanent it can be for a week or so depending on the results, besides you dont have to actually implement anything new or redesign existing stuff.
pauper weekends,pauper mondays....etc what ever.

pauper evens the field a little bit since one doesnt have to own expensive cards.
it can be done by auto increasing the points given after game as usual or giving new players pauper boosters like the normal ones but only working for pauper.

since obviously  an expanded single player campaign is long way off this is one of the little thing that can be done right now with little effort.

I think one way that could help populate the pauper and merged queues is if they got their own major questlines like ranked and draft that could award medals, titles and avatars. That provides some players with a motivation to take part without having to give a significant increase in rewards such as extra ip that my disincentivise playing any other mode. However I feel that, until the game has a much larger population, attempting to improve the popularity of pauper and merged too much may actually just end up further hurting the queue times for regular constructed matches.

pauper ip boosters can be given only to players who are 20lvl=<  for example, so you got the noobz playing against each other

He was saying equal to or less than level 20. Therefore, only the lower level accounts will get them, though Smurf accounts would potentially get them as well. :/
Just so you guys know, if you're ever vs WWK, just start putting out random numbers and mathematical symbols, he will surrender.

The important thing is to create a 'newbie zone' somehow. Providing vets with incentive to queue pauper and demolish the newbies just because it gives more IP/EXP is not going to provide a healthy experience for the newbies.

Many powerful cards like Mad Monk, Xi, Lucca and Sacculas are just uncommon. Veterans with multiple copies of them can obliterate newbies and still dominate pauper.
Yes, they are "Unique"

While I love the idea, Shimrra does have a valid point. It has to be some kind of even that prevent veterans from crashing the newbie party.
Maybe give them soulbound pauper boosters if the player is lower than level 20?

In any case, incentives to bring the pauper matchmaking back alive are always appreciated :P

veterans will be veterans in every game there is out there, theres nothing anyone can do about them.

playing pauper evens the field when it comes to cards not player skills and legend/epic and good rares are hard to come by so new players are at a big disadvantage when it comes to cards, yea its not  perfect solution and you still have mill decks.

IW is a complicated game with lots of stuff to learn about cards, gameplay etc so giving an incentive for people to play pauper is an attempt to make life for new players easier.

also its not that difficult to have the databse alert a real person/staff to take a look at an account with a disproportional high rate of wins and chk the ip adress or cards traded between accounts to see if its a smurf or not, then pauper suspension for week etc so not to farm noobs all day.

all im saying is  LM should definitely try to make pauper noob friendly, try in any case,if they succeed is another question.
but its well worth trying at least.
if anyone has a really good idea about pauper please share it on the forums

Problem with pauper will still be saccullas and lucca until those cards are changed (again) they will rule all of that format imo. We need a proper ranked ladder for pauper too. Vets can just create alt accounts so as long as those are allowed there will never be a noobie friendly place. I better idea might be an area that you can only use starter decks. 1st the ones from the campaigns, then a 2nd area to incorporate the ones you can buy. This way at least the card pools will be fair and only skill/luck will matter. You need to also count as having the starter deck if you own all the cards for it, but never actually bought the starter otherwise you will anger people. This will also help to balance the decks against each other as a massive testing ground like this will help and pave the road for more theme/starter decks.
