General Game Discussion / Infinity Wars FAQ
« on: July 15, 2013, 07:44:00 PM »
Right so name says it all I'm gonna start working on a FAQ for infinity wars because, well frankly its sorely needed. (Props to zetsubro for giving me the idea ;D) I'm probably not the most qualified person for this so I hope all the veterans of the community will help pitch in suggestions and ideas.

Q: How do I join the beta?
A: Everything you need to know about joining the beta can be found here.

Q: What should i spend my IP on?
A: When first starting the best use of your IP would be to save up for a starter deck. They're expensive but definitely worth it. After that buy super boosters. The guaranteed rare is worth the patience, even if it isn't something you need. You can try to trade it for something you do need later.

Q: What is Merged Mode?
A: In Merged Mode both players decks are combined allowing for an even playing field with no card advantages.

Q: I found a bug what should I do?
A: First make sure the bug has not been reported already by looking through here.  Screenshots can be of use so please try to take them whenever you encounter something odd. If  the bug you've encountered is not listed here use the submit a bug button. This can be found by clicking the Help button in the client.

Q: Is there a card database?
A: The official database is not yet available, but we do have Aleta's Archive which is an amazing fan site made by Rhapsydian.

Q: What faction should I start with?
A: A great way to get a feel for what each faction does would be to play through the entire campaign. If your still not sure after that you can ask around in global chat to see what other players have to say about the various factions.

Q: How do I know who goes first?
A: The player with the green name on the top of the screen has initiative for the turn.

Q: I can't see the sides of the game what should I do.
A: Try using different resolutions and switching between full screen and windowed, if none of this helps Email support at

Q: How do I add someone to my friends list?
A: You can add a player to your friends list by typing /f <name> in the chat. You can also click the add friend button on the bottom right of the screen, then type their name into the popup box.

Q: Are there any benefits for getting a higher level?
A: Every level you will receive a core booster pack. Every five levels you will also receive a new profile picture to choose from.

Q: How do I increase my level?
A: Just play against other players! You also get some XP (experience points) for playing against the AI, doing the campaigns, and so forth.

Q: What is the maximum level a player can achieve?
A: There is no limit yet but this may change in the future.

Q: What are quests and how do they work?
A: There are two types of quests: Starter quests and weekly quests. The starter quests are the ones you get after finishing the tutorial. You can do those at any time. The weekly quests change frequently and are also displayed on the left side of the Home screen. You receive your rewards instantly when you complete them (check the Rewards section in the Store).

Q: Are there different kinds of starter decks?
A: Yes. After completing at least one level of each faction campaign, you get to pick a free starter deck. This is a one time choice so be sure to do some research on what faction interests you. The second kind of starter decks are available in the store at all times. They are different from the decks you get from the starter quest but are definitely worth saving up for as a new player since they give a variety of useful and valuable cards.

Q: How many levels do the faction campaigns have?
A: Currently, they have eight levels each, so there is quite a bit of content! They will probably be further extended in the future, too!

Q: Is the game pay-to-win?
A: No, all cards are available simply by playing the game. The booster packs can be obtained with the in-game currency, Infinity Points/IP, which you receive for playing games. There are no special cards that can only be bought. The game is genuinely free-to-play, no tricks, no hooks, no traps. Quests also often award cards. There are also modes like Pauper and Merged Deck that allow even brand-new players to compete on a level playing field.

Q: What is pauper mode.
A: In Pauper mode only cards of common rarity are legal making it a great way to test your skills and give newer players a solid chance against veterans.

Q: Is there a ranking system? Or ratings?
A: Yes you can play ranked games by changing the game type to ranked in the play window before queuing. Ranked games have to be played in tournament format and will award rating for winning. Rating will be reset when the game goes live so don't worry too much about it and have fun.

Q: Is there a way to change my in-game avatar?
A: Yes, on your profile in the social tab you can select from a variety of avatars or purchase more from the store for IP or LP.

Q: Can I trade cards with other players?
A: Yes, you can freely trade cards with your friends and other players! To do this, left-click on a player's name in your friends list and select "Trade". There is a Trade chat channel that is worth keeping an eye on, and the forum also has a trading board where you can post offers or check if someone has cards that you'd like.

Q: Is there a crafting system? What do I do with all my extra cards?
A: Not yet, but it is in the works and will be available eventually. Until then spare cards can be traded, or just hung onto for now.

Q: What is LP, and what is it used for?
A: They're Lightmare Points, a purchasable currency (via PayPal only, with credit cards coming soon) that can be used to get Booster Packs (the same ones as with in-game currency) and starter decks. They are also used for tournament entry fees and later on for obtaining prestige items such as avatars, sleeves, and tables, none of which will affect the game play or the balance.

Q: How do I send a private message/whisper/tell to another player?
A: To message a player privately, type /w <name> <message>. When they respond, you can also use /r (r stands for repeat not respond) to send a private message to the last person you sent a whisper too.

Q: What are platinum cards and how do I get them?
A: Platinum cards are a special limited edition design for cards obtained through Rise preorders or by participating in the backer only alpha. They're are NOT different cards they simply have different borders.

Since both these opportunities have passed the only way to get them now is via trading.

Q: What are foil cards and how do I get them?
A: Foils are special cards obtained through packs. You can get them from any kind of pack and they have special rainbow art effects. It can be any card available in the pack but the chance of getting a foil is very low.

Q: What else should I add to this list?
A: Tell me below ;D.

General Game Discussion / Previous pack RNG bug
« on: July 10, 2013, 07:38:43 AM »
Has there been a decision in regards to whether there will be compensation for the people affected by the reduced RNG on packs bought right after the tournament token release? If not this will at least provide a thread for people to comment on the issue.

I just want to make it clear I am not demanding compensation I'm simply pressing the issue so that we will have a general understanding of Lightmare's stance on such an issue for future reference.

Also for those of you who don't know what this is about there was an issue with the RNG for the packs in the patch which included the tournament token release it was shortly dealt with but some players, myself included, received very lousy pulls from our packs when buying our tokens. It was wide spread and consistent enough for us to question the matter and a bug was found and dealt with however since the matter occurred over the weekend we had to wait for an official statement regarding possible compensation.

Suggestions / Puzzles/Scenarios
« on: July 01, 2013, 02:02:46 AM »
How about doing daily releases of puzzles based on a certain card for a week, then if you completed every puzzle that week you get the card they were based on. You could even have the community design the puzzles, Just open a thread for what card will be used for next weeks puzzles and let everyone post ideas. A few days later (maybe a 3 day period?) pick 7 of them. Maybe even put the name of the person who submitted the puzzle as the ai's name for the scenario.

Suggestions / Lending a helping hand
« on: June 30, 2013, 07:31:24 PM »
So when this game goes live many of us are gonna invite all our friends to play. The problem is that they'll be starting from the bottom and have to work their way up. So i was thinking maybe we should add a system where players can lend cards to their apprentices for selectable periods of time from maybe a few hours to a week or two. when the times up the cards are returned automatically to their original owner. This will not only encourage new players to be more active but also give them a fighting chance against the veterans.

Plus it will give them the chance to experience the game from more then just the beginners perspective and let them have something to strive for be it though consistent play or by financially supporting the game. Which is of course always a great choice. 8)

Suggestions / A few ideas on purity
« on: June 30, 2013, 07:19:30 PM »
So I've been thinking about what kinds of cards we can expect in the future and I got to wondering if there are plans for cards that require different purities. For example, a card that requires 1 warpath and 2 genesis purity and would be an artificial beast. I think there is a lot of potential for things like that.

Another idea I had was cards that cannot be in decks with certain purities for example a 2 Flame Guard purity card that cannot be in a deck where the third purity is verore. He would be kind of like a flame guard chaplain of sorts.

Another idea was commanders that provide 2 different purities but take up two commander zones or 3 purities and 3 zones. Maybe a card that is invincible while in the commander zone and cannot be moved from there but provides some kind of special effect that boosts a certain strategy using multiple purity type cards.

And last but certainly not least was my idea for cards that cannot be in decks with more then a specified purity for example a verore spell that can only be used if you have 2 purity for verore no more no less. Perhaps a sort of watered down dark wish? Maybe even cards that require one of your commanders to be one of the cards that don't require any purity at all.

There is a lot of potential for the purity system both in how it provides many unique possibilities but also in the way it can be used to balance certain cards I'm looking forward to where things go from here.  ;D

General Game Discussion / Is someone going to make a reddit?
« on: June 28, 2013, 08:27:50 AM »
So I looked around and realized Infinity Wars doesn't have a reddit yet and I was wondering if there were plans in the works to make an official one. If not I'd love the chance to make it but I don't think I'm the most qualified person to do it. It would be nice if we had a small group to do this so we could really get the ball rolling.

So in short may I make a reddit and would anyone here be interested in helping to mod/support it?

I haven't been playing infinity wars for very long yet, and so far the only thing that has bothered me about infinity wars is their choice of wording on a certain cards effect. What the card does should always be clear and concise to avoid issues with certain combinations.
My problem is bomb bot, his effect:

At the start of each turn, you may pay 2. If you do, Unstable Bomb-bot gets +2/+0. If not, Unstable Bomb-Bot explodes, dealing damage equal to its power to every character on the battlefield. (please let me know if this is incorrect)

Now while his effect is for the most part quite clear the problem is the word "explode".  What in game terms does that mean?
1. Is he destroyed?
2. What kind of destruction would this classify as?
3. If he isn't destroyed by this and instead by the damage of his effect does this mean he can under certain circumstances survive his own effect?
4. If he can survive will he activate again immediately after or will he wait till next turn?
5. If hes not destroyed by the damage but is instead destroyed as a condition for the effect can the destruction be prevented by cards that prevent destruction by sources other then damage?

The list goes on but i think you get the idea. Now so far this is the only case of this I've encountered so maybe its not really a cause for concern i just wanted to mention this now as a sort of please be careful message to developers and maybe get bomb bots effect reworded.

Otherwise aside from a few bugs which are natural since its in beta the game is great and I'm looking forward to where things go from here.
