General Discussion / Single Card Discussion: Unstable Bomb-bot
« on: November 25, 2012, 11:26:54 AM »

We've all seen him at some point, surely, but we've finally gotten a look at him in his fully animated glory. The art for this card, albeit silly, really gives off a sense of speed and panic, but what really makes Bomb-bot interesting is his highly strategic effect.

Firstly, we have some selective wording with the term "explodes". I imagine Snarley is bashing his head against the wall about right now. Lightmare, please make your effect descriptions consistent instead of immersive, yeah? The effect itself is in the spirit of Genesis, what with buffing this unstable robot each turn. However, the opponent now also has to be aware that Bomb-bot could go off at any second, wiping out his entire battlefield. Not fun.

Personally, I think this card is a must for anyone wanting a Genecentric deck. With Secluded Constructor, Unstable Bomb-bot can achieve ridiculous stats, making him a real pain in the neck.

Thoughts? Opinions? Cookies?

General Discussion / Single Card Discussion: Battlefield Scavenger
« on: November 22, 2012, 07:04:38 AM »
Since the Cards section is up and running, I thought I might as well bring up one of my favorite cards that we've had the privilege of seeing in all its animated glory.

Say you're playing more defensively, then chances are you'll be able to protect this guy quite well early game. If you do, you get to draw a card, if you don't...well, he was only 3 resources, that's fine. All I know is, this character is going into all my Verore builds. Maybe this card would work best with something like Warpath, who can rack up a bunch of monsters in the defensive zone very quickly in order to protect Scavenger. Sure, something like Winds of War or any other damage card for that matter will completely obliterate this guy, but you still won't have lost much resources.

While not a Verore staple, I think that this is one of the cards I'm most excited about trying out. Am I the only one? Probably.

General Discussion / Single Card Discussion: Winds of War

Winds of War – 4

Deal 3 damage to all deployed characters.

Ability
Common

------------------------------------

There has been a lot of talk about staples and the card Assassinate, but Winds of War is a card I would personally like to highlight. As you saw, this card absolutely wrecked Rob's Unending Drones in the detailed gameplay video, slowing him down considerably.

I could see myself running a few of this guy, unless I'm playing something hyper-squishy. The ability to damage everything single thing on the field save commanders can buy you a lot time, or at least weaken your opponent, and at the cost of 4 it's rather cheap. Sure, it only benefits you if you're falling behind on characters, but I see this gem disrupting many-a combo.

Plus, with Sleepers, or any future faction that plays from your graveyard a lot, this card could be an absolute beast.

Thoughts? Would you consider this card in your deck at this point?

General Discussion / Single Card Discussion: Patient Zero
« on: November 20, 2012, 08:54:04 AM »

(In before someone makes a card discussion section and I'll have to ask WWKnight to MOVE it again. MOVE, not reMOVE, dear.)

I'm very glad to see this card having such a high cost, because it certainly deserves it. The ability to recruit your opponent's characters is an extremely powerful one, but perhaps it will have some trouble doing so consistently in the endgame with a measly 5/5. It's Exhaust is also rather powerful, if expensive. So, how many of you wanted to play Sleepers the moment you saw this card? And what do you guys reckon Mercenary means?

Game Rules / Card Clarity
« on: November 20, 2012, 06:06:59 AM »
A few of the things I hope to see addressed along the line is card clarity, effect terminology and conflict resolution. This isn't that big of an issue right now, but it's important that card effects are well-written and thought out from the start. For example:

- Most cards that refer to themselves use their card name. I think that they should instead use "this card", simply because there are cases where cards with the same name could be on the field. Shikana, Who Demands Tribute is a great example (for those of you how don't know that card, check out Emanuel's list over at the Card Spoilers thread).

- Even when the game engine takes care of a conflict, the player must understand what happened. This is not the case when two Martyr Golems are on the field, and both of them take damage at the same time (from say Winds of War or the alike). Reading their effects, I'm sure you all think "well, doesn't that cause a loop?". Which, in the early stages of the game, it did! Martyr Golem is the perfect example of a card that needs clarifying or reworking.

- In some places, the word "kill" is used as opposed to "destroy". From what I gather, you can only "kill" non-artifical characters. But is there a difference between "kill" and "destroy"? Since Mass Death "destroys" all characters, does that not buff Verore Ritualists, since the Death Worshippers need cards to be "killed"? Probably not, but do you see what I mean? Terminology has to be precise, and you can't dismiss that with "oh, the game takes care of it". Players need to understand the cards and how they interact, and expect me to comment on this over and over and over.

Suggestions / Create-a-Card!
« on: November 19, 2012, 03:59:51 PM »
This will be the place to fuel your inspiration and live the dream! Post your made-up cards here, and maybe one day they'll be made into actual in-game cards! [DISCLAIMER: Create-a-Card has no affiliation with Lightmare Studios and cannot guarantee that usermade cards will one day be a part of the official Infinity Wars game.] Create-a-Card politely asks that all member follow a small set of guidelines, compiled to ensure the quality of the card entries.

Rule #1
All cards must be entered used the followed template, or a similar one. Leaving out certain stats is perfectly fine, but try to make your card as cohesive as possible.

-----------------

Card Name – Cost                   Purity X - (Faction)

Atk - X
HP - X

"Flavor text"

Effect

Type
Rarity

-----------------

Rule #2
No god cards. Do your best to make your card balanced and well-rounded. No Cost 1 cards summoning the epic 30/30 Lemeza of the Skies who eats the opponent's hand while listening to classical music and smoking a cigar.

Rule #3
All cards are part of a bigger universe. Try to make your card fit in with the theme and story of its faction, so that it truly feels like an actual IW card. Of course, you can go a bit crazy with it. No need to take every little aspect into consideration, but let's not have a cute little girl from Verore dancing around in a field of flowers, hm? Have your card, both in flavor text and effect, tell us a story.

It's as simple as that, people. I will forego with a good example and create my own amazing, stunning, gloriously fantastic card so that we can all revel in talent and creativity of the wonderful...ugh, let's just get on with it.

General Game Discussion / UI Elements
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:53:28 PM »
People who have seen the detailed gameplay (which I sure hope is all of you!) will know that the Alpha version in the video lacks a whole lot of UI elements, making the experience somewhat confusing at times. Of course, Lightmare knows that more indication is need, and Alpha is Alpha. But, if you guys could chime in, what would you like to see implemented? Here are a few points I have:

- Indicator for Initiative, that is, who will cast the first spell/ability.
- Indicators for effect targets. For example, an Aleta who has buffed one of my four Unending Drones should somehow light up when I look at the buffed Drone, and vice-versa.
- A log of your actions, so you can easily review your moves before submitting them. Of course, you'd also have the option to undo a move.

This is just a few things that need to be implemented to make the game clearer and flow better. Do you guys have anything you'd like to add to the list? Maybe not even on the playing screen, but on the deck building screen? Do share.
