General Game Discussion / Re: Some Fixes For Draft
« on: July 11, 2016, 11:41:05 AM »
I feel like one of the biggest problems with draft is the massive discrepancy between decks that luck into great picks for their commanders and those that have to make do with a meh command zone. Rather than having to deal with overcomplicated ban lists that hide information from anone who doesn't go looking for it, I can't help wondering if it would be better to just let players swap their commanders for other cards they drafted at the end (while still obeying purity requirements of course) so that almost every deck is able to have a strong command zone. Stuff like Evolving parasite, Rita or an Aleta in command would be much less of an issue if your opponent was highly likely to have equally strong commanders.

I really have a hard time understanding how super infectious zombie is ok. 10/10 with infect is already really strong for a 4 drop. its almost sure to kill something in that turn and then even if he dies he get a 10 damage creature with infect. he shouldnt give infect or use infect only if he survives combat to lower his snowball power. or some other tweak.

I've not had a chance to test it myself but because creatures killed with infect don't get raised until the end of turn it seems to me that if he died in combat then the creatures he infected actually wouldn't get infect because he'd no longer be in play by the time you gain control of them. Could be wrong, thats just my interpretation and doesn't change the fact he's still very strong, especially as a commander that doesn't need to be deployed.

Speaking of the change to the levelling system, will we be getting a new way to unlock the level up medals anytime soon?

General Game Discussion / Re: Highly suspecting someone cheating...

While this doesn't sound like evidence of cheating, I thought a previous patch had made it so you can't get matched up with the same person twice in a row? Has that been undone or am I just getting mixed up with a different dtcg?

Been away from the game for awhile but news of the Reborn patch brought me back. Just saw a bunch of alt arts I didn't recognise in this topic, so can anyone tell me whether that harp playing Champion's Herald  is actually in the game and if so whether its soulbound or something I'll be able to trade for?

Have to say that I  absolutely hate the idea of no longer allowing players to get packs of specific sets. If there are issues with the packs not being clear enough for new players then just have the collection pack and most recent expansion be the first items in the shop list with them clearly labelled as "Contains cards from every set!" and "Newest expansion!".

General Discussion / Re: Firefly Inspired Card Ideas

Mal and the Blue Hands also seem pretty crazy as defensive cards (if the blues are meant to kill without taking damage) while Simon and Kaylee's damage redirection doesn't seem like it would work due to requiring you to choose a target during resolution rather than planning. Repeatable morale gain is also something that the developers have said don't want in the game so I don't think a card like the Jaynestown memorial would ever be made.

Still, as just for fun ideas, some of these are pretty neat reflections of the characters, like Wash going all "Leaf on the wind" and Book's "The bible is less clear on kneecapping".  ;D

Speaking of rework. Tygris' ability is actually kinda cool, but it suffers from the fact that
a) you can't play tokens directly on the board
b) you can't predictively target tokens even if by the time spell goes off he will already create it.

At least b can easily be rectified by adding "token projection", token ghost that can be targeted the moment tygris ability is queued but that will dissipate if tygrys is neutralized before he can activate.

you can actually. you just have to pay for charge or vigilance. and they will begin on the board
However in addition to being unable to target them, you can't determine their exact position if, for example, you needed to defend with multiple characters and wanted Tygris' new vigilance token to be at the front of your defense zone rather than the back.

General Game Discussion / Re: Toxic Cards in Infinity Wars

Not so much a "toxic" card but for me, I really wish they'd rework or fix Swarmer Broodlord. It's a never used card (explained below) so actual extreme changes to the card affects little to no one. =)

It's effect, without the "swarmer only" restriction is a godsend for us swamer players but it has a toxic-level restriction placed on it...

Only swarmer ( no spells, abilities), pretty much forcing it into a creature only deck not only makes it unplayable, but an actual unbuildable deck for most people. You'll need at LEAST 10 copies of survival swarmer just to make the deck, and that's assuming you were desperate enough to include 3 Broodlords into the deck itself, not the command zones.

So, please take a look at broodlord. Do it for the swarm. Do itzzzzzzzzz
I think they could fix it by simply having it only prevent you from using non-swarmer characters, while allowing you to use abilities, locations etc. The focus should still be on the characters as swarmers benefit from having as many as possible in play, while ability heavy decks wouldn't want to spend a command slot on something that grants no purity, but being able to include a few abilities should help cover some of the deck's glaring weaknesses like lack of removal.

My suggestion? 1 mass death per deck permitted. 1 chance at a 50/50 situation.
I feel like a more elegant solution would be making the card a Unique Ability like Calamity, maybe adding some flavour text to it that refers to it being a spell that won a famous battle in the lore. Its definitely the spell that I feel most deserves to be placed on the same level as Calamity due to its combination of power and playability.

Players can still include multiple copies to boost their chance of drawing it and Verore tends to run Recycle/Gather Thoughts anyway so they'll often get a chance to cast it again if they save those cards for MD, but it would remove the issue of successfully dodging a turn 6 Mass Death only to get hit with a second one on turn 7. This way dodging Mass Death when they can't get it back into their deck on the same turn actually feels like it properly rewards your prediction as you have an opening to attack all out until they remove it from their discard pile.

Of course some people have said that spammable Mass Death is needed in order to prevent 2-3 purity Verore from simply getting slaughtered by aggro or mass tokens. However for those scenarios you have overcharged storm. When this card came out I initially thought "What the hell is Lightmare thinking letting CoV potentially run SIX board clears?" Then I thought "Maybe they won't include Mass Death in that core set they've got planned, meaning it'll be phased out of the game and this is its replacement." That disappointingly wasn't the case of course, but its still true if MD were to be nerfed Overcharged Storm remains as a potential replacement thats arguably even better at dealing with Flame Dawn rush (can be played a turn earlier and hits paladins) while forcing Verore to either spend lots of cards overcharging or also use their single target spells if they want to get rid of bulky creatures in the more midrange or lategame decks that it feels most unfairly punishing towards.

Veroria is fine, and it's already been nerfed once before. If you think Veroria is so toxic, run location removal. If you want Veroria nerfed into uselessness just so you don't have to sidedeck removal then keep QQing because it will probably never happen as long as location removal is a thing.

I think part of the problem with Veroria that leads to so much disagreement about whether or not its toxic is that there's a very different perception from those who play best of 3 in ranked and those who prefer to play quick 1 round games in unranked where sideboards aren't a thing. It can be countered by location removal, but the vast majority of location removal cards are unplayably bad in any matchup where the opponent's deck doesn't rely on a location. The game really needs to take an approach where most location removal still has a use in other matchups, without being overpowered when they do have a location, like annihilate whose main strength is as creature removal but can be used to destroy a location (instead of, rather than in addition to killing a creature) as well.

General Game Discussion / Re: I'm very confused right now... new publisher?

Considering how pessimistic the community had become, with so many of the biggest supporters abandoning the game, I feel that any change can only be positive. Of course a lot of that pessimism was due to Lightmare's absolute failure to communicate with the playerbase to give us reason to believe improvements are actually coming, so it feels like they really should have shared this with us earlier. Maybe they weren't allowed to by the company they're trying to deal with or they feared that doing so would weaken their ability to make the deal work, but I just worry that the atmosphere of the past months may have caused too many to abandon the game already.

Still, if this is actually happening then at least it means the game still has some chance to come back so I'm happy to hear it.

General Game Discussion / Re: [Patch Notes] Version 1.4.9

I'm rather annoyed that we didn't get some notification of this change ahead of the patch. I was one level off of getting a new medal and title, which I probably could have achieved if I had advance notice (particularly as I still had a now useless xp booster in my inventory that I was saving for the next major event). Also, it seems like its now impossible to progress the leveling medal any further than it was before. I know they don't show to your opponent anymore but they're still visible to you.

General Game Discussion / Re: Rift run & avatar questions
« on: November 01, 2015, 12:46:14 PM »
There is no maximum number of wins in rift, you get to keep going for as long as it takes to reach 3 losses. That said, some people choose to abandon their run anyway once they have enough wins that the deck they drafted becomes free as further wins don't give much of an increase in rewards after that point. I believe this is at 30 wins, though I could be wrong.Edit: not having gotten that far myself before, I forgot that later rift reward were improved at some point and this is no longer the case.

Special borders for your avatar are rewarded for progressing in ranked mode, with the rainbow border being the highest reward. You can see exactly how many points you need for each reward by looking at the quests in your profile.

Adorabear is one of the best, most well known players in the game and the bear avatar is exclusive to them (not sure if it was a reward for something specific like backing the kickstarter at a high level/winning a tournament or just for being a major contributor to the community). You can't unlock the bear for yourself I'm afraid, but you should take some pride in the fact you managed to beat him.

If I was an alien, and I had the tech for interstellar travel / invasion, I'm not sure I'll be much concerned about super easy to kill bags of flesh and bones (however intelligent they may be) rather than invisible opponents that can kill me from the inside.

And scattered about it in their overturned machines were the Martians, dead, slain after all man's devices had failed by the humblest things upon the Earth.
