Title: Guide-Key Words
Post by: Kilroy512 on August 04, 2013, 12:30:44 AM
When I first started playing I found myself a number of times wondering what the heck some of the key words meant for game-play. So, in light of this, I want to gather up a list of all the key words with what they actually do.

Key Words:
Charge - Deployed directly to the assault zone.

Vigilance - Deployed directly to the defense zone.

Haste - Is not exhausted on its first turn.

Slow - Becomes exhausted after spending a turn in the attack or defense zone.-TimetoSplit

Unstoppable - Attack continues if defender in dies.-Tyonidas

Untouchable - Cannot be the direct target of abilities.-gpt999

Shield - A character with shield cannot be killed by non-damage effects while their Shield is "On". Characters come into play with their shield "On" and taking a non-damage kill effect will "Turn off the Shield", meaning the next non-damage kill effect will kill the character. Shield effects "Turn back on" at the start of the next turn.-Zinqf

Invincible - This character is not affected by anything that would destroy this character or reduce this characters' health. This character can still be sacrificed, removed from the game, returned to the hand or have their stats adjusted.-Zinqf

Consume X - When this character destroys another character, it gains health back equal to the health of the character destroyed and gains +X/+X where X is the value of consume.-WWKnight

Flying - Cannot be blocked except by creatures with flying.

Unique (Character) - A player cannot play a unique character from their hand while a unique character of the same name exists on the battlefield or the command zone under that player's control.-Zinqf (brought over from glossary)

Unique (Artifact) - A player cannot play a unique artifact to the support zone while a unique artifact of the same name exists in the support zone of that player's control.-Zinqf (brought over from glossary)

Up to date as of 8/9/13. Let me know through PM or just leave a message here if you see any problems.

Unstoppable allows the character to continue to attack if it kills the defender in front of it.

Slow exhausts the character every other turn.

When a character with consume kills another character, they heal damage equal to the amount of life the dead character had, and gain X/X, where X is the consume value.

Make these changes to the original post:

-Slow-Becomes exhausted after spending a turn in the attack or defense zone.

-Invincible-Cannot be destroyed by any means - still affected by Calamity, but Shikana allows it to stay (I believe, may have to check on this one).

Invincible - This character is not affected by anything that would destroy this character or reduce this characters' health. This character can still be sacrificed, removed from the game, returned to the hand or have their stats adjusted.

Slow - If this character was in the combat zone during the planning phase, they are exhausted at the end of that turn.

Besides, I created the mechanic. If anyone knows how it works, it'd be me!

Thats right!  If you visit www.utopianchaos.com you will be seeing content from a bonafide game developer (technically speaking).

Thank you all for the help, I think that pretty much does it for now. Got it looking decent. If you guys see anything wrong just PM me or something. Hope this helps some of the newer crowd get used to the game while the tooltips are not in place.

Also, I would like to direct your attention to www.utopianchaos.com (http://www.utopianchaos.com). :P

So much so, that people will look in awe of the amount of stuff in it but not read it for the same reasons.

Unique - Only one copy of this card may be in play at a time.-Koey

I'm not happy with this one - if you control a unique character, you may not play another one with the same name. For that purpose, having a unique character in Command counts as controlling it. ("control" isn't the best word - better one?)
However, you can have more than one unique character in play - each opponent may have the same. Additionally, you can control multiple unique characters if they weren't played from hand (raised from graveyard or played while out of game)

All Aleta are special - they are hardcoded to never permit more than one under a player's control. If you lose an Aleta, play the same from hand, lose that one again, play a new one etc... when the first Aleta returns from the graveyard, it will die at the end of the turn (and cost morale again). You can suicide yourself with Aleta :D
This has been a while since I tested it, that might have been fixed... But I never read anything that would affect Aleta's rebirth.

This is a quick reference guide. Yes, this information is available elsewhere, no it has not been previously consolidated to a quick reference guide.

This thread will also be invalidated once the game has tool-tips to explain the keywords at which point it will be abandoned, but until then its the easiest place to find all the keywords in one place.

Copy pasta from the Glossary

Quote
Unique (Character): A player cannot play a unique character from their hand while a unique character of the same name exists on the battlefield or the command zone under that player's control.

Unique (Artifact): A player cannot play a unique artifact to the support zone while a unique artifact of the same name exists in the support zone of that player's control.

What exactly is Shield?
Quote
Shield (Buff) - A character with shield cannot be killed by non-damage effects while their Shield is "On". Characters come into play with their shield "On" and taking a non-damage kill effect will "Turn off the Shield", meaning the next non-damage kill effect will kill the character. Shield effects "Turn back on" at the start of the next turn.

Added shield to the list. ;)

Looks like they are working on getting tool tips, so I'm kinda backing off on this thread, but until they are fully functional I'll keep it up.

I'm trying to find a way to not make Shield so wordy xD.

Yeah, it's a mouth full but I feel like it is necessary to really get the point across. Any less and it would lose some of it's meaning.
